Whoever said you were too young/old to live that dream..... Curry Hammock,
       Florida Keys ....was wrong!

The rain has finally parted, like the Superbowl.  So close, yet we’d never get tickets, that’s if Catherine would ever be caught dead going.  But that’s ok, the sun returned today, so we took advantage of one of our final days in the Keys.  We’re currently residing in Key Largo at John Pennekamp State Park, and I’m a big fan of the place.  Went on a glass bottomed boat tour out to view Florida’s coral reefs, we viewed the Molasses reef in particular.  My favourite is the brain coral.
The state parks are beautiful in the Keys, just have to book them 11 months in advance or grab a site after a cancellation.  Curry Park had an interesting aura, it’s what I’d picture if I was ship-wrecked and washed ashore.  It was very desolate feeling but with that warm twist of lime.

The kayaking there is terrific as well.  We paddled around islands and through mangroves.

There were thousands of small black square-bodied tree crabs on the mangroves.  It quickly could have turned into a horror movie if one of those landed on Catherine.  She’s not quite so fond of that particular species of crab.  The stone crab on the other hand is quite tasty.  Apparently they just serve the claws, harvesting one claw per crab at a time to sustain the population.
We encountered lots of wildlife in its natural setting while on our kayaksapade.  This osprey had a great time tormenting a fish.  It was being suspended from sharp talons before the bird of prey finally finished it off.

This Great Egret below was getting comfortable on the beach.

Here’s a couple more pics from Curry Hammock state park, from our site we could see water from all our big windows.  Great for sunsets.

One of Cats favs that she took....it seems to represent this park and the area the most....

Now back to cleaning up after the new bird in town.  Charlie is getting more comfortable, but he is pretty clumsy, or messy or bratty… he’s been flinging seeds everywhere.  I’m sure Cat will keep you posted with lots more bird stories and pictures.  Key Rain....
