Whoever said you were too young/old to live that dream..... Curry Hammock,
       Florida Keys ....was wrong!

We thought ANTS were a problem….boy oh boy. Wait until you hear about my parents luck!
(or lack thereof)
They were ready to leave Toronto on Friday for Florida….but plans were botched before they had a chance to really start their journey. Let me mention that they have been dealing with a bit before this latest, er, road block:P
The first thing to happen was something wrong with their converter. I’m not sure of the entire story, but there was a noise going on and off and things weren’t working right. They also went without heat for a bit for a reason I’m not too clear on….this was in the below freezing temperatures. The third thing to happen was something about their sewer hose busting (in the cold?) and sewer leaking all under their unit and then re-freezing. Nasty stuff. Next thing I hear their hose bursts after their heating strip failed to work (it was brand new). This was all going on while they were working extremely long days while transferring their office to another doctor and finishing moving the last of their stuff to a storage locker. People at the campground we’re helping them out too, so I’m not sure what they could have done wrong, although when new at this you make a few mistakes!
And now, back to Friday. They do the final checks, and start putting the slides in. All goes well until the kitchen side slide (the long one). Only half of it comes in. Oh, and it won’t go back out!
After calling the dealer, they are told no one was there for the day to fix it, and they’d have to call on Monday. Um, not cool. The freezing air was coming in (not to mention the sleet and snow), so there is no way that was happening. My mom just basically told him to get someone down there….and she can be pretty scary when upset/angry….LOL! I’m not sure if she freaked out or not, but regardless two men were sent out to have a look. Apparently one of the two bars underneath that the slide rests on were made too short, thus the slide ’slid off’. (I’m saying this based on a frantic phone call, so don’t quote me here!) They managed to work it back in so the slide could remain closed….but they cannot put it out again until fixed. They tell them they do not have the parts for this kind of thing, and that their best bet was to go to KZ in Indiana. Mind you, they can’t get to the stove or half the fridge or anything now. If it had happened to Bryan and myself, we’d be able to crawl and sit on the island while cooking or something….but my parents are a different story:-(
So the dilemma.
-Drive the extra hour to Indiana on the way, and wait until KZ is open on Tuesday, and take the chance that they can fix it in time for them to get here for Christmas. Thing is, my mom said something about talking to KZ and saying that they were doing inventory for the week, so this may not be possible until a week from now….don’t quote me on this though….
OR
-Drive to Florida and have the parts sent down to a KZ dealer down here. They may have to come in to use our stove and such, and live in a smaller place without the slide, but at least they’d be here for Christmas.
I’m going with plan B! Better safe than sorry….
I have no idea what they’ve decided to do. The dealer was also supposed to add their missing awning on one of the slides in the morning of their departure. Guess that’s not happening either!
Because we had to sell my mothers cell phone and contract, she no longer has a phone….so I have no way of reaching her to find out what they did. Hopefully she calls soon or finds a wifi signal.
Oh I forgot to mention, before trying to leave, my dad hit his head on the bedroom slide. Two gashes and blood everywhere I heard. Ugh….I’ve almost done that several times, and I’m sure that’s why you see people with the swimming noodles attached to that part at the RV parks! Great idea!
I do hope they make it down here. So far, Christmas doesn’t seem like Christmas and I think Bryan is taking it hard. I guess after being in the snow for so long at Christmas, it’s hard to get into the spirit down here. And while I can admit it’s not the same, I’ll also say that I don’t miss the cold and the snow one dang bit!!!! Beaches and palm trees and warm weather = happy Catherine. A fair trade for the Christmas spirit:D
I also ordered a bunch of goodies to arrive at our new mailing address, so that will cheer us up too:-) The UPS store has a mailbox service with a ‘real street address’ rather than a P.O. box and it’s come in really handy. They also do mail forwarding which is neat!
We’ve also just purchased two tickets to the Mickeys Christmas Party at Disney World, and I’m SURE this is going to work:-)
Today the weather was beautiful finally after a rainy couple of weeks. I had told Bryan that Florida was ‘always sunny’ and now I’m eating my words! Thing is, I’ve always come down here at other times of the year….not the rainy season. But that’s ending now and it looks like a beautiful week….
Now if only my parents can make it down here to enjoy it. She hasn’t called yet to let me know, so I’m very curious to know the outcome….
Better days are coming….this will all be fixed soon….! When you get lemons....
