Whoever said you were too young/old to live that dream..... Curry Hammock,
       Florida Keys ....was wrong!

....continued....

The day we arrived in South Carolina was a warm one. It was BEAUTIFUL. We went to the beach and I noticed the waves were ‘acting funny’. Now last time I noticed/said this was a few years ago in Cocoa Beach Florida, hours before tornados hit all around my family and I. Of course, I thought nothing of it this time….
Later that night, the news cuts into our program….severe thunderstorm watch for our area and all around. Ok….so THAT explains it….
A bit later our program is interrupted once again: Tornado watch! Till 5am!
I figure, well, that’s no sleep for me....
Bryan tells me I’m being silly….but Bryan doesn’t know that ’storms’ down here are different from what he’s used to. I’m no fool! He passes out into slumber land and I’m glued to the TV, watching the coloured map at the top of the TV screen showing the storm warnings. All those pretty colors….and scrolling letters….Zzzzzz
A few hours later, I nearly fling myself out of bed gasping for air. Some kind of disturbance (in the force? LOL)….near panic attack. As I settle down, I turn on the TV to check the progress and two seconds later I see lightning and hear the crack of thunder! The wind picks up, and I realized that this human barometer was right! Bryan said I must have felt a pressure change and it woke me up. Sure enough, the tornado watches are all around us….and an actual tornado WARNING for just north of us. For those of you who don’t know, a tornado ‘warning’ is not a good thing!
Our sleep wasn’t great that night. Or at least mine wasn’t. Well, I kept waking Bryan up freaking out every time there was an update. I was drifting in and out of sleep, awaking at any loud noises from outside….ready to grab Mittens and get Bryan and him out to a better shelter. What’s the closest? Oh wait, that would be a ditch! Hmmm….
In the morning we awoke to the same conditions….and we learn that JUST north of us has been hit with a tornado, almost right after the warning was placed on the area. Eight people dead, a few missing, more injured. Scary stuff. Bryan was shocked! He’s learned now that storms here are nothing to take lightly, and I had my immature fun saying over and over and over (and over and over) again: I TOLD YOU SO!
In one of the storm breaks, I went out to the beach (which is a 5 second walk from the RV….hooray for Ocean sites!) to take some pictures. The waves were furious and the sky was filled with dark clouds….of course, I had my camera:D (previous post!)
By the afternoon, the storm had cleared and all was sunny again. My heart goes out to all those people who were affected by this storm. Many lost their friends, and neighbours….many lost their houses and all their possessions. Another reason I wish I had a lot of money….the stories on the news that night were so sad….I wished I could help:-(
And so, we’re here for a week….the weather is a bit cooler. We had our first ‘Camping World’ experience….and walked out with too much money spent:D Bryan was just thankful it wasn’t clothes, but rather, things we ‘actually needed’. We now have a patio rug and stair mats….and many other things:D We then headed to a few of the many ‘beach shops’ where I bought some clothes and a skim board….once I start, it’s hard to stop. So much for that ‘things we actually needed’ thing:-P We tried the skim board today….not too much luck with it….just bruised toes really:D I was sure I was going to break my neck, but thankfully Bryan took it over and messed up his feet instead:D Haha!
I was tempted to get the body board out, but the waves weren’t good enough to convince me that the cold water was worth it! That and when walking in the water, I thought a jellyfish hit my foot, and so I ran like an idiot screaming and yelling from the water. I’m not a TOTAL wimp I swear….jellyfish seriously freak me right out!
Anyhoo….
We’re settling in nicely here. I love it! Tonight we stood outside after a walk to the beach, and we just kinda stood there looking around and taking it in. Over a year ago, this would never had even been in the equasion. What we have here, we won’t ever take for granted. I consider us very lucky for what we are able to do.
I can’t predict the future….I don’t know what will happen. We might lose it all, or it might get better. But right now….THIS MOMENT, everything is perfect. The dream that we never knew we really had has become a reality. Saying that this was ‘the best idea ever’ doesn’t even begin to touch this. We are thankful for every minute that we are able to live this lifestyle. I am so excited for all the places we have yet to go….and I hope we are able to do it all!
For not having a ‘permanent home’, I feel more at home now than I have ever felt in my whole life. I know I’m not the only one….
To all those who want this so badly….to fulltime….it is SO worth working for. Whether it’s just a dream for now or a close reality, I can only advise you to get out there and experience this. After the dream becomes a reality, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner!
And with that note, some peeksures:D
