Whoever said you were too young/old to live that dream..... Curry Hammock,
       Florida Keys ....was wrong!

Where should I start? Ah, yes….our truck trip to Big Chute and other places on the Severn Waterway. I wanted to show Bryan all the places my family and I boated when I was younger. First stop was Severn Falls, a marina along the way on a quiet part of the system….it hasn’t changed a bit! Second stop was ‘Big Chute Marine Railway’, which is a big tourist attraction here. It’s funny not being on that thing with a boat, and instead joining the crowd of onlookers at the bottom!

A few pictures of the rapids at Big Chute where people usually swim. However, because of the power outage caused by that crazy storm, they were letting the water go after sounding the alarm to generate power to run the chute.

A panoramic view of both….

After that it was past O’Hara Park, one of my favorite marinas when I was a kid. Very isolated and small….it was strange driving to it….looks completely different that way. They had a few smaller trailers there, but the road to get to the place was so far in the backwoods, it would be impossible to get Mr. Escalade near it! From there we saw Whites Falls, Driftwood Cove Resort/Marina (another long time favorite of mine!), Lock 45, and Port Severn.
In other news Mittens has been getting along perfectly, and has adapted and learned to love his new home. I thought the smaller space would be a bad thing, but he’s found quite the way to overcome it. He had his first ‘crazy chase me game’ a few days ago, and has had one each day ever since! He tears up a storm in here and loves all the little places to hide. He’s found a few funny places to go, one of them being at the head of the bed towards the closet, between the slide and the bed itself. Another place he loves to get into is behind the fireplace through the cupboard, and under the garbage can pull out door, where there is a massive space. Since breaking the latch on it (ugh!) he’s figured out a way to get his paws in there and pull it open!
His favorite place now, however, is the sink. He refuses to drink from his bowl, and screams when he wants a drink….or just runs at your ankles up the stairs on the way to the bedroom/bathroom and then leaps up on the counter! He loves the sink so much that he sleeps in it *all the time*. It’s either that, or beside my head on the bed by the little window.

I must also mention he’s no longer too afraid of bugs, and the fly population is always kept under control, as has the mosquito population. We can always count on him to jump all over us and on our faces at night, in his wild attempt to ‘play’ with Mr. Mosquito. Theodore Mittens fear of ‘the outdoors’ is also starting to fade. We take him for stroller walks around the park, and even had him walking out alone at our feet in the large field by the lake!

Mittens and I, roaming the field….

                                                                                                             Ahhhh….

We take him out on a leash every night, and he just loves it as long as the sun isn’t out. His personality is becoming more outgoing the less sheltered he gets. I’m so happy he has taken to his new home….better and faster than I thought he would. He loves to watch everything out the window….this has opened up a whole new world for him!

On the weekend my parents came up to stay again….we had lots of fun playing Bocce Ball, Mini Golf, and Cribbage. The silly men haven’t beaten us yet at Bocce Ball, and we creamed them in Mini Golf! Cribbage was another story, which is a real turn around:-(
Like Bryan, I’ve fallen in love with the smell of campfire. I think we may permanently smell of it after a bit longer in this lifestyle! We (and everyone else here!) have campfires all the time under the stars, it’s fantastic. The stars here are even more impressive….I see shooting ones every night. Speaking of stars, Bryan was seeing them after the last fire when I accidently stabbed him in the hand with a hot poker I was roasting marshmallows with. He should be more careful, he knows I’m clumsy:P Shortly after that, a glowing coal landed between his toes causing him to make an almighty racket jumping up and shaking his foot. I’m satisfied with this, especially after him laughing at me in Wasaga Beach when a similar thing happened to myself:D
OH OH, I can’t forget….I found another solar gazing light at the Canadian Tire here….and it’s in the shape of a BUTTERFLY! My mom and I went wild looking for more, but could find none. Apparently they have two more in stock, but they had to track them down. We went home with two rainchecks and a massive load of other goodies from Walmart and Canadian Tire. Bryan and my dad were sick and tired of our 6 hour shopping spree….but we didn’t seem to mind too much….we just had them carry everything to the car:D
While I’m typing this, I’m enjoying a relaxing massage which I won from a little ‘fishing competition’. I challenged Bryan to this, knowing I’d catch more. I can’t believe I only won by ONE extra fish, which was a fluke anyway. I was re-baiting my hook, when suddenly the line fell through the dock. As I was pulling it up, I realized a TINY little rock bass was on the end….he bit the unbaited hook and was small enough to get through the crack….bizarre!
                                                             A very small rock bass….

We couldn’t figure out what kind this was, and I know most of what’s in this lake!

Oh, BTW, I don’t use live bait, because, well, you know me;-) Instead, I use hot dogs….the fish like them better than worms. I discovered this at a young age….try it….you’ll see! Also for the record, I thought I should mention that the best part of fishing is throwing them back. Bryan asked me how I could possibly make the fish ’suffer’ (the smart ass!)but as I see it, when they are thrown back, they have a whole new lease on life:D I’m also teaching them not to fall for the hook, as someone else may not be so kind! So there:P
Anyway, here’s a sight for sore eyes….Bryan the ‘fisherman’ (born and bred) with a MASSIVE catch. He looks rather pleased, doesn’t he? This one would make his daddy proud:D
*snicker*

His expression says it all. His first ’small catch’ was a sunfish (pumpkinseed), which was also my first caught fish when I was young. How sweet!
Well, back to my knitting. Oh wait, I didn’t mention that did I? I decided to take up ‘knifty knitting’ with a loom….something I did when I was a kid. I have almost completed a beautiful scarf….and it relaxes me. I know many of my friends reading this just had their jaw hit the floor….
Catherine, KNITTING?! What the $#&@?
It’s true, and guess what….I LIKE IT too! Especially when accompanied with a massage:D
That’s all for now….more soon….I’ll leave you three more pictures….Mittens happy, cozy, and at home…. Changes.
